Dr and Mrs Barlow
Our next Legacy Project event will be held on Tuesday 30th June at 6pm (BST). Our subject is The Barlows.
Dr Wilfred Barlow trained with Alexander in 1938. Author of 'The Alexander Principle' and 'More Talk of Alexander', Dr Barlow was also a principal witness defending Alexander in the 1948 South African defamation case. Dr Barlow featured in the famous 1984 Channel 4 documentary, 'A Way of Being'.
Marjory Mechin was Alexander's niece. Working with Alexander since 1932, when she was 17 years old, she married Dr Barlow in 1940. Marjory ran a teachers' training course (with Dr Barlow) at Albert Court from 1950 to circa 1982. She contributed many interviews about the Alexander Technique, including "An Examined Life" and "The Ground Rules", and gave lectures at AT congresses and delivered two STAT Annual Memorial Lectures.
Many students of the Barlows' training courses are unfortunately no longer with us, and we are very grateful to the guest speakers for offering to share their memories of these unique people and their ways of teaching.
