Legacy Project
The Charity for the F Matthias Alexander Technique (AT Friends) is undertaking a “legacy project” to try to make a record of the experiences and insights of some of those people who studied with first generation teachers, with, in their own mature years, the benefit of hindsight.
Margaret Goldie
The first subject of this project is Margaret Goldie. Miss Goldie was a very enigmatic figure, active in the Alexander world for more than seventy years. Although she and her teaching are not widely known, for many of those who were her pupils she exampled and transmitted an understanding of Alexander’s ideas that was different from that found in the training courses established by her contemporaries.
Only a very few people have thus far written about Miss Goldie. Several of her former pupils have met together on Zoom in the past year to share some of our recollections and a public webinar open to all the Alexander community took place on 25 February 2024.
Peggy Williams & Erika Whittaker
People who had lessons with Peggy Williams or Erika Whittaker are invited to contact us if they would like to contribute to the Legacy Project, either in writing, in a recorded online interview or by participating in a panel discussion webinar.
Two panels of second-generation teachers will be live at the AT Congress in Dublin in 2025 to share their insights and memories of training and/or studying with first-generation teachers.
